Dutch Bulb Fields & More Tour - Caravan and Motorhome Club April 2018

This tour is in the Caravan and Motorhome Holidays, Escorted European Tours brochure. The tour, currently seven nights, is based at Camping Koningshof in Rijnsburg. You can either take the ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland (approximately, 50 miles to the site) or a Channel crossing from Dover, followed by approximately 230 miles to the site via motorways. The site is well placed for this tour and has excellent facilities, including indoor/outdoor swimming pools, fishing lake, play areas, bar, restaurant, take away, shop etc.

Although there were tour hosts, the site management arranged the itinerary and provided the group evenings. The itinerary included a very varied array of excursions, including Amsterdam, The Hague, Leiden, Deft, Bulb fields, etc. On bikes you can visit the local area and some of the bulb fields nearby.

The highlight of the week is a visit to the Keukenhof gardens, famous for the it’s spring flower displays. These gardens are spectacular, but the only disappointment was insufficient time there. These gardens are worthy a several hours not counting the lunch time. We arrived at 11am & left at 2pm. I have commented back to the club that the visit should be extended. If the weather is good, then a pack lunch can be ideal, if you have limited time there.

Another highlight, not always well publicized, is a flower parade on a Saturday that travels through local towns. You can see the floats being prepared indoors during the week and the whole experience is well worth seeing by booking the right week. The floats are amazing and to see the flower displays being made on the floats is very interesting.
