In March this year we visited Tewkesbury Abbey Club site, which had recently been refurbished. The whole site looked really good with new landscaping across the site and excellent facilities. Because the site can be affected by flooding, some new multi-surface pitches have been installed, which are basically block paving with the awning pitched adjacent on grass. This means it is cheaper for the club to clean up the site after any flooding. The site is really well located being next to the Abbey and an easy walk into Tewkesbury. For more information see page 166 of the handbook.
I mentioned earlier in 2018 that we were planning A trip to Nova Scotia and the surrounding islands. Well in June this year we set off on a three-and-a-half-week holiday touring Nova Scotia, taking the ferry across to New Brunswick, then crossing onto Prince Edward Island via the Confederation bridge, back into Nova Scotia by ferry to Baddeck on Cape Bretton island for the famous Cabot trail drive. After this we returned to Nova Scotia to complete the trip down to Halifax. We decided to hire a 4x4 vehicle and book into Canadian style Inns, many were the Victorian period.
We could have taken a motorhome, as previous trips abroad, but decided this time to go fly drive, as we had done in New England and the West coast of America. On our way round we took note of the camp sites available and at every stop there were good camping / caravanning and motorhome facilities. In fact, the Canadian Maritimes is well set up for touring by caravan and motorhome.
Our trip included mainly two/three-night stops at Halifax, Lunenberg, Annapolis Royal, Digby, St. John, Fredericton, Charlotte Town, Pictou, Baddeck, Charlos Cove and back to Halifax. The trip was about 2000 miles and could have completed in two weeks had we left out Fredericton, in New Brunswick.
The Canadian Maritimes is a great trip and now that we have told the World wide touring team at East Grinstead, it is being considered for a future independent tour by the Club, so watch this space.
If you would like any more details about our trip and what we visited etc them please contact me and I will tell you more.
